Carmarthen is a busy town centre with many shops and restaurants, a museum, leisure centre and cinema, and is one of the oldest towns in Wales. Carmarthen is rich in history and has many historical places of interest such as a Roman Amphitheatre and Castle. There are interesting stories and folklore surrounding Carmarthen, such as the story of Merlin the Wizard. Carmarthen hold the Merlin Festival annually, which encompasses the community spirit and provides entertainment for all. There are so many opportunities to explore and discover.

Seaside Towns & Villages

The local area has numerous picturesque and very popular coastal towns & villages to visit, such as Tenby (above) and Saundersfoot to the south and Aberporth and New Quay to the west. These areas come to life in the summer, with plenty to see and do. In the colder months, these areas make great quiet days out walking around the towns, visiting shops and cafes.

Beaches

The South West Wales coastline has some of the best beaches anywhere in Great Britain including Barafundle (above), the well-known Pendine Sands (famous for land speed record attempts) and Rhossili on the Gower Peninsula (voted one of the best beaches in the world!). There are numerous small coves with their own small beach too and often a village, such as Amroth, Manorbier, Llansteffan and Wisemans Bridge.

Coastal Walks

"Opened in 1970, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path was the first National Trail in Wales and is one of 15 National Trails in Britain. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail hugs the coastline for 186 miles or 299km of some of the most breathtaking coastal scenery in Britain. From St Dogmaels in the north to Amroth in the south, the trail covers almost every kind of maritime landscape from steep limestone cliffs, undulating red sandstone bays, volcanic headlands, beaches, estuaries and flooded glacial valleys."

There are a wide variety of local restaurants and pubs to suit all palates. Locally in St Clears there is an award-winning Bangladeshi/Indian Restaurant, also two pubs serving traditional pub lunches and evening meals. A little further afield in Carmarthen you have numerous choices of cuisines, including various popular chain restaurants and all the usual fast-food favourites.

Outdoor Pursuits

There are lots of places locally to engage in your favourite outdoor pursuits. The Brecon Beacons are not too far away if you like a proper hike or more active pastimes, as well as the Preseli Hills, known to be the source of some of the stones used at Stonehenge. There are numerous Nature Reserves offering excellent wildlife watching opportunities. The Brechfa Forest is nearby, a mixture of ancient forest and managed woodlands containing mountain bike trails as well as promoted walks and rides.

Leisure Centre and Hydrotherapy

Carmarthen Leisure Centre has become a regional hub for physical activity and offers a first-class range of facilities including a 25-meter 8 lane Swimming Pool incorporating state of the art electronic timing, spectator area and Teaching Pool, All weather playing surface, Tennis courts, Gymnastic and Martial arts centres, Conference facilities and a 45 station Gym and Fitness studio. The centre also offers a full range of sporting activities for all ages including Fitness Classes.
We are also close to Hydrotherapy centres, which provide bespoke services offering rehabilitation and leisure for residents. Hydrotherapy pools are available to hire for 1:1 sessions with a Hydrotherapist, or you can hire the pool privately for a session. The closest cinema is situated in St. Catherine's Walk Shopping Centre in Carmarthen. The Vue Cinema has six screens showing all the latest releases from morning until late evening, 7 days a week.

Carmarthen and the local area have clubs of all sorts, such as football, rugby, tennis and swimming. We also have good links with the local rugby teams, and Welsh Premier League teams, Haverfordwest and Carmarthen Town. Carmarthen Golf Club offers reasonable rates & has a driving range if you want to practice your swing.
